Crane Service Lifts Cones for Stacking in Portland, OR
Many of our customers do not realize that in addition to towing services, Baker & Baker is also a trusted Portland crane company. This allows us the opportunity to assist on some unique jobs. This was the case recently when we took on a crane services project in Portland, Oregon.
This particular job was for one of our loyal customers, Wright Manufacturing, a machinist shop that creates specialized equipment for water treatment and sewage plants. In fact, this call involved lifting several cone shaped rings to prepare them for shipping to municipalities across the country. Wright Manufacturing is the only company in America that makes such equipment.
To fully prepare for the task at hand, proper crane practices needed to be followed. This involved an initial investigation of the area. The Portland crane company first assessed the area on Google satellite view to account for any trees, power lines, or other obstructions. This is an important step as our crane setup cannot come within 10 feet of power lines.
With this information in hand, the crane company felt ready to get the job done. We headed over to 747 SE Johnson Creek Boulevard in Portland, Oregon and set up the crane. Our team assessed the items to be lifted. The specialized plastic cones are only a couple of hundred pounds, but the cumbersome shape, metal rings, and brackets could make the job tricky.
First, the crane company increased the width capacity of the crane by 20 feet through the use of outriggers. These come out of the sides of the truck and plant on the ground to spread the load on the crane out to the widest points.
Next the Portland crane company raised the boom of the crane and put it in position. Each of the plastic cones was rigged with chains on the top rings. Then, the crane service team used the hook at the end of the lock and tackle to attach to the chains and lift straight up into the air. The process was repeated and each of the pieces was stacked on top of each other.
Thanks to the expert Portland crane company, this job went off without a hitch. Great work, team!
