Raising the Roof (Literally)
When someone adds to their home, we want to take extra care. Especially when our towing operators handle heavyweights like glulam beams. Recently, we had the opportunity to help with a new construction project in Molalla. Our customer was building an addition to their house. They booked our Molalla crane service, for us to assist with setting a 900-pound glulam beam in place, ensuring the structure of the house got the support it needed.
Arriving at the Construction Site
We arrived on-site in our crane truck 209, driven by operator Tenny. The job was located near South Ona Way and couldn’t have been a better time of year. The ground was firm, making it easier to park the truck on gravel without worrying about sinking or slippage. The first step in every crane operation is to check the surroundings, so we did a quick walk-around of the job site to plan out the best approach.
Securing the Site for a Safe Lift
Safety is always our top priority. For this job, it was no different. We deployed the outriggers—large steel beams that extend from the sides of the crane truck to ensure it stays level. This step is crucial because every calculation we make for a lift is based on the crane being stable and balanced. With the crane secure, we were ready to tackle the main task: lifting the beam.
The Crane in Action: Lifting the Beam
Once the crane was in position, we set a couple of straps on the bridle and wrapped them securely around the glulam beam. We then carefully lifted the 900-pound beam and held it in place. We worked alongside the building contractor, who ensured the beam was aligned correctly before securing it into the structure.
A Smooth Process, Completed in Two Hours
The entire operation took about two hours. Once the beam was set and fastened into place, we unhooked the straps and retracted the crane. This type of job is why we emphasize the importance of offering a reliable Molalla crane service. Without the right equipment, focus, and work ethic, lifting a heavy, fragile beam like this could lead to delays, damage, or worse, injuries.
